Our Sustainability Program Has Been Renewed – Actions Start Immediately
The Endomines Board of Directors approved the renewed sustainability program in December 2024. We are now drafting a sustainability roadmap for 2025–2029 in accordance with the new program. The implementation of the updated sustainability program begins immediately.

In 2022, Endomines conducted its first materiality assessment for sustainability by interviewing its stakeholders as part of the sustainability program planning. The key themes of responsibility identified were personnel, environment, and integrating responsibility as an integral part of Endomines’ business and strategy. The stakeholder interviews also highlighted the importance of work safety, emission reduction, water use efficiency, and consideration of natural values in the restoration of mining areas.
Last year, we continued to develop our responsibility work by publishing our first sustainability report and conducting a double materiality analysis. The analysis assessed the essential impacts, risks, and opportunities of our operations and defined the sustainability topics relevant to Endomines according to ESRD standards. Stakeholder views were taken into account as part of the assessment. In the future, we will review and update the double materiality analysis annually.
The updated sustainability program is now based on the topics identified as material in the double materiality analysis. The Endomines Board of Directors approved the updated responsibility program in December 2024.
Goals of the Sustainability Program
The main goals of the renewed sustainability program focus on climate, water, biodiversity, personnel, community, and good governance.
Climate:
- Our goal is to produce carbon-free gold at the Karelian Gold Line by 2035.
- We commit to being carbon neutral across the entire value chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3) by 2035.
Water:
- Our goal is to ensure that the water we discharge into nature is as clean as the natural waters in the area.
- We invest in innovative technologies and collaborate with experts. We maintain a closed water cycle in our process and communicate openly about the quality of our discharge water.
Biodiversity:
- Our goal is to preserve biodiversity by continuously restoring decommissioned areas.
- We work systematically to identify natural values and develop habitats.
Personnel:
- Our goal is for everyone to be able to go home healthy from work.
- We develop our occupational safety practices with the goal of zero accidents. We strive to make Endomines a pleasant workplace for everyone, where it is possible to be oneself and develop one’s skills.
Community:
- Our goal is for the local community to trust us and that we do things right.
- We keep in touch with our neighbors and listen to them, and we communicate our activities clearly and transparently.
- We support local vitality and the recreational use of nature.
Good Governance:
- Our goal is the continuous embedding of ethical practices in our organization.
- We ensure that everyone knows how to act within our company.

The Roadmap Turns Goals into Actions
In addition to setting goals, the sustainability program defined topic-specific working groups responsible for turning goals into actions and ensuring practical implementation. Each working group has a designated person responsible for promoting the group’s work and reporting progress to the sustainability steering group. The sustainability steering groups support the work of the working groups in line with the sustainability program and ensure reporting to the management team and the board. The board, in turn, uses an annual clock to manage and monitor the sustainability program, tracking the achievement of goals, the progress of the sustainability program, and the implementation and results of actions.
Currently, we are focusing on drafting the sustainability roadmap. The roadmap is a plan that guides our work in line with the sustainability program for the years 2025–2029. It includes concrete actions for each topic area that move us towards the program’s goals. Once the roadmap is ready, we will begin implementing the actions set for the current year.
“We want to be a partner that acts correctly, respects biodiversity, keeps its promises, and treats people well. We want to be proud of our operations for years to come – that’s why sustainability work is part of our strategy and firmly at the core of our operations,” says the company’s CEO, Kari Vyhtinen.
