Endomines’ Sustainability Report 2024 Released

Endomines Finland Oyj’s Sustainability Report 2024 was published on April 25, 2025. The report emphasizes the development of a new sustainability program and systematic efforts to improve occupational safety and well-being.

The Sustainability Report 2024 details the measures we have taken towards sustainability throughout the year, how we have achieved our goals, and how we plan to further develop our sustainable practices in the future.

Directions for Sustainable Development

Our sustainability program sets the direction for our work in sustainable development. Key themes for 2024 included employee well-being and safety, the environment, emission reduction, efficient water use, consideration of natural values, and integrating sustainability deeply into Endomines’ business operations.

In 2024, the focus was on developing responsible operations. We conducted a double materiality analysis in accordance with the EU’s CSRD sustainability directive and updated our sustainability program to be even more ambitious. We made significant investments in improving occupational safety and well-being and enhanced our communication efforts.

Regarding the environment, we achieved our goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by five percent per gold ounce produced and maintained a closed-loop system for water used in our processes. We also conduct environmental monitoring in accordance with industry-required monitoring programs and perform additional voluntary monitoring.

Sustainability Highlights in 2024:

  • Conducted a double materiality analysis and updated our sustainability program.
  • Made significant investments in improving occupational safety.
  • Reduced carbon dioxide emissions per gold ounce produced by 5%.
  • Maintained a 100% closed-loop system for water used in our processes.
  • Enhanced both internal and external communication.
  • Updated cost and risk assessments related to mine closures.

Occupational Safety at the Core of Development Work

In 2024, we implemented numerous development measures to ensure that every Endomines employee can return home healthy from work. These measures included:

  • Developing an occupational health and safety policy that commits the entire organization to proactive safety development.
  • Collaborating with safety consultancy firm dss+ to develop daily management systems, safety management, and key safety guidelines.
  • Strengthening staff skills through safety training.
  • Enhancing and setting goals for the activities of the occupational safety committee.
  • Standardizing and clarifying incident investigation processes and updating the HSEQ reporting tool.
  • Clarifying contractor requirements and expectations and engaging contractors in safety development work.

Towards Even More Ambitious Goals

At the end of 2024, we updated our sustainability program to align with the results of the double materiality analysis required by the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The analysis assessed the significant impacts, risks, and opportunities of our operations and identified key sustainability topics for Endomines. Stakeholder views were considered as part of the assessment.

The main goals of the updated sustainability program focus on climate, water, biodiversity, employees, and good governance. During 2025, we will define a sustainability roadmap that will guide our work according to the sustainability program from 2025 to 2029.

Climate: Our goal is to produce carbon-free gold at the Karelian Gold Line by 2035. We commit to being carbon neutral across the entire value chain (scope 1, 2, and 3) by 2035.

Water: We ensure that the water we discharge into nature is clean and does not degrade water bodies or their ecosystems. We invest in innovative technologies and collaborate with experts. We maintain a closed-loop system for water used in our processes and communicate openly about the quality of our discharge water.

Biodiversity: We preserve biodiversity through continuous restoration of decommissioned areas. We work systematically to identify natural values and develop habitats for species.

Employees: Every Endomines employee can return home healthy after a workday. We continuously improve our safety practices with the goal of zero accidents. We strive to make Endomines a desirable workplace where employees can be themselves and develop their skills.

Community: Our goal is to strengthen the trust of the local community in us. We maintain contact with our neighbors, listen to them carefully, and communicate clearly and transparently about our operations. We support local vitality and the recreational use of nature.

Good Governance: We promote and maintain ethical practices within our organization. We ensure that every Endomines employee is aware of our operational guidelines and follows them in their daily work.

Sustainability Work is Never Finished

The purpose of our sustainability report is to make visible the ambitious work we do to achieve our goals. Sustainability is about continuous improvement, and it is never complete. Goals must also be ready to be raised along the way.

“Sustainability is a central part of Endomines’ strategy and business, and our goals are high. At Endomines, we work with great heart and create growth while respecting nature and each other. I strongly believe that by doing things responsibly, we create an operating environment that is sustainable both in terms of company culture and economy,” says CEO Kari Vyhtinen.
